Description
The dance drama The Orphan of Zhao is adapted from the Yuan Zaju Drama The Orphan of Zhao. Set in the Spring and Autumn period, it tells the story of the Zhao clan of the State of Jin, who are falsely accused and exterminated by the treacherous minister Tu’an Gu. The clan’s only surviving child is entrusted to the retainer Cheng Ying. Facing the threat of complete annihilation, Cheng Ying sacrifices his own newborn son to save the Zhao orphan and protect all the infants in the city. From that moment on, Cheng Ying embarks alone on a long, centuries-celebrated path of loyalty and righteousness.
The drama has been performed in South Korea twice.
