David Zwirner is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of paintings by New Zealand-born, Los Angeles-based artist Emma McIntyre (b. 1990) at its gallery in Hong Kong. This exhibition is not only McIntyre’s first solo exhibition in Asia, but also her second at David Zwirner.
The Hong Kong exhibition is titled "Among my swan", an album released by Mazzy Star in 1996. The album deeply inspired McIntyre, and alludes to the swans and cranes that frequently appear in her work, motifs that were also frequently used by artists such as Robert Rauschenberg and Sigmar Polke. McIntyre’s birds, with their graceful, curly necks, play the role of omens in history and mythology, as well as tools of spatial orientation, symbolizing open skies and endless waters.
